About this course

應用計量經濟學導論(AGEC 2018)— Lab Sessions / 實習課 · Fall 2026 (115-1)

The lab in short

The lab meets weekly and counts for 20% of your course grade. Everything is taught and graded in R, so bring a laptop with R and RStudio installed.

Slides are posted on the Slides page after each session and open directly in your browser — no download needed.

Lab grading

The lab accounts for 20% of the semester grade, split as follows.

Attendance — 5%

  • Roll call at every lab session.
  • To request leave, email d14627001@ntu.edu.tw beforehand.
  • The first two absences cost nothing, whether excused or not; from the third onward, each one deducts 1% from the semester grade.

Lab assignments — 5%

  • Two assignments, 100 points in total.
  • Submit your code together with a short report or your results.
  • Submission through NTU COOL.
  • Work submitted within 24 hours of the deadline loses 10 points; after 24 hours it is not accepted.

Computer exams — 10%

  • Two in-lab exams: Oct 12 and Dec 7.
  • 14:20–16:00, computer classrooms Boya 408 and 409.
  • Open book. A USB drive is allowed; internet access and other electronic devices are not.
  • Submission details and how to use the lab computers will be explained before each exam.
On collaboration. Working through problems with classmates and coming to office hours is encouraged — copying someone else’s work is not. If something is unclear, email the TA early rather than the night before the deadline.

What the lab covers

By the end of the semester you should be able to

  • Work comfortably in R and RStudio.
  • Clean, reshape and merge real datasets.
  • Build clear figures with ggplot2.
  • Estimate and interpret the models from lecture: OLS and fixed effects, difference-in-differences, and instrumental variables.

Office hours

  • Mondays 16:20–18:20; location to be announced.
  • Send your question by email ahead of time so it can be prepared.
  • Extra credit is given for completing the end-of-semester teaching evaluation.
